Our History
and
Our Future

WashMo On the Go is a welcome center in the historic Water Works building located in the James T. Rennick Riverfront Park. This building was built in 1888 and housed the first water superintendent for the City of Washington. He and his family lived here for 40 years while it was an active water processing plant. Since that time, it has housed many businesses including an art gallery and an antique store. It was badly flooded in 1993 and the City of Washington completed a major renovation on the building in early 2022. It has now been restored to its original beauty with most of the architectural elements within view.

A visit here will provide the history of Washington, displays about the nature surrounding us, and interactive displays for kids. Check out our 2,000-gallon fish tank with Missouri River fish, our local animals’ diorama, Lewis & Clarks’s replica boat, a small train car to sit in, and a “touchable” table full of locally resourced furs, bones, insects, and rocks. We also carry products from over 40 local businesses and artists, many hand-crafted. Visit our second floor to check out antiques, vintage clothing, and seasonal décor.

We are a great resource for people using our trails, trains, and river. We have lots of snacks, supplies, bagged ice, cold drinks, hot coffee, maps and information, and souvenirs. We are also a part of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and have the Junior Ranger program available for younger guests.

We are open from 9 to 5 daily except for four major holidays and often stay open later when there are riverfront events happening.

Contact us at 636-283-5019 to arrange a visit for a small class or group of children.
